H.E Ahmed Ali Dahir was born on January 01, 1970 in Baidoa, Bay region in Somalia. H.E. Dahir graduated from the Somali National University in Mogadishu with a Bachelor in Law in 1988 and holds a Master of Arts in Administration and Management from Makere University in Uganda. He first served as a District Judge in the Bay and Bakool regions of Somalia, and was subsequently appointed in the same region as a Public Prosecutor (Deputy Attorney General), from the year 1993 and 1996. During the initial years of his career he worked for an International Organisation, dedicated to peace building and conflict resolution in the Horn of African region, after which he joined a Nairobi based Law firm in the year 1995, where he worked on criminal and civil cases.
From the year 1996 to 1998 the Ambassador served as the Vice- President and then as the President of the Supreme Court of Somali Regional State of Ethiopia. He has been the part of the the review panel of the 1962 Penal Code, and various legislations including the Anti-Terrorism Bill.He was appointed as the Attorney General of the Federal Republic of Somalia in July 2014 till November 2019.
Mr Dahir also represented Somalia in the International Court of Justice leading as a Senior Counsel in the Maritime delimitation dispute between Somalia and Kenya, where Somalia has won a full hearing on its case. He built and strengthened the ties with regional prosecution agencies, and engaged on prison transfer agreements between Somalia and other countries. The historic appointment of the first female prosecutor and followed up by more appointments of the female prosecutors happened during his tenure in the year 2015 as the Attorney General since 1991.H.E. Ahmed Ali Dahir currently appointed as the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somali in India, and also accredited for Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Nepal, on December 2021.
